I have been teaching this last month on, The Lies Women Believe by Nancy Leigh DeMoss. We look at the lies Satan feeds us, then we counter it with truth from God's word. I have really enjoyed this study. #8 on our list of lies was: I NEED TO LOVE MYSELF. This is a lie, satan feeds us. Another term you may hear is, you have low self-esteem or what about this one? "You Just Need To Love Yourself." The TRUTH is, we already love ourselves immensely. We naturally love ourselves. Think about it. Do you take an aspirin when you get a headache, why? You have had a hard day, do you grab a bowl of ice cream and try to hide for 10 minutes, why? You treat yourself to a coffee from the coffee shop, why? Because you LOVE yourself. You take care of yourself because you think you deserve it. What does the Bible say? Ephesians 5:29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: KJV The Bible also says, we are to DENY ourselves. Matthew 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. KJV We naturally love ourselves; we do not naturally love others. We need to learn how to deny ourselves, so we can do that which does not come naturally - to truly love God and others.
We just got on the topic Sunday of I HAVE MY RIGHTS. Lie #10. We see this in our culture today more and more. Everyone has their rights. Even animals have their rights, crazy. Let's look at Jonah. He felt he had a "right' to dislike the pagan Ninevites. He has a "right" to minister where he wanted to minister. He had a "right" to see the Ninevites judged by God. God acted differently from the way Jonah thought He should. Jonah 4:1. The Bible says in Jonah 4:4, then again in verse 9. "Then said the Lord, Doest thou well to be angry?" KJV Jonah felt he had the right to control his own life. He wanted to have things go his way and when they didn't, he had a "right" to be angry. You have seen a "Yield" sign on the side of the road right? Here in Ghana, they say, "Give Way". We need to "yield" the right of way, to on coming traffic. Truth is, we need to "yield" our "rights" to the one who holds all "rights". Yielding your rights will set your free. John 6:38 "For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me" KJV
